Chapter 7 The Hill of The Strange Trenches
- What was the day like?
The clouds that contain snow, covered the sky and sun. Around 10, the snow started to fall and 30 minutes later they hardly can see farther. The wind was strong and that made the snow into the blizzard.
2. What was the top of the hill like?
The top of the hill has very smooth like an ice field and flat. However, the surface of the flat field had many strange squares and oblongs of banks or dikes that were crisscrossed on the surface. The banks or dikes were 60 centimetres to 160 centimetres high so that they had to climb up.
3. What happened, to Jill’s horror? What was the trench like? Why didn’t Jill want to go around the corner?
She had fallen and slid down into a dark, narrow chasm or a trench or groove, where the wind was blocked. At the trench, she found a lane that the snow wasn’t covered up. She walked along the trench, but a corner that turns to the right-hand side showed up. Since she was scared, she didn’t want to go further.
4. Why couldn’t Jill think of the next sign?
Since she stopped repeating the signs every night, Jill has confused the order of the signs.
Why did she snap at Puddleglum?
Jill was firstly mad about herself, being not able to remember the signs so fluently. Also, the coldness and the tiredness made her say “bother the signs.”
5. What was the outside of Harfang like?
When they saw the Harfang, it was like a huge house rather than a castle. Also, there were a lot of windows that almost reach the ground. Also, some small doors around the castle look more opened and safe.
6. What did the porter look like?
Porter wasn’t that tall as they expected. He was definitely taller than an apple tree but shorter than a telephone pole. His hair was red and bristly and was wearing a leather jerkin with metal plates fastened. On his leg, there was puttees and hair was place on it.
7. Where did the children find themselves?
They found themselves in front of the huge fire melting themselves. Marshwiggle got drunken and become Respectowiggle and then become a repectabiggle. Lastly, they went to the throne to meet King and Queen.
Reflection
Now they are completely out of track from the purpose that they supposed to find the lost prince. The trusted Marshwiggle is now become repectabiggle by letting (allowing) the temptation of alcohol. Which the temptation of adult might struggle to avoid in the real world. If there were temptations for Kids for now, but this was the kind of temptation for the adults. I am worried about how they are going to continue their journey. Actually, the Giants were very kind than what I expected, even though they had met only two Giants. Since I have already read the book, the respectabiggle always make me smile.
