Chapter 6 The Hill of The Strange Trenches

1. What were the giants doing when Jill first saw them? Why were they throwing boulders?

The giants were leaned on the gorge and throwing boulders to the stone tomb because it’s the only game that they can understand with their stupid head.

2. What did the giants do when they were quarreling? What made them stop?

When they were quarrelling, they first argued with words, but later they started to hit others’ head with their stone hammers. Around one hour later, because of the hurts, they started to sit and cry hard.

3. What did they see when they came to the northern edge of the moor?

They saw a long sleep slope and much harder lands under that cliff. Darker cliffs, rocky hills, and rivers give weird feelings.

4. What did the bridge look like?

The bridge looked quite stronger than when they saw it from far away. The stones were huge with cracks and some decorations of giants, minotaurs, squids, centipedes, and dreadful gods were placed on the railings.

5. What did the two strangers and their horses look like?

The first stranger was a woman who was driving a white horse that is lovelier than the woman and she was wearing a green dress. The second stranger was a knight with a black horse and black armour and didn’t talk anything.

6. Where did the road lead? Why did the lady advise them to stop there for the winter?

The read she introduced was leading them to the Harfang, where the giants live. The lady advised them to stay at the Harfang because it has much better giants were living there and much better environments.

7. How did things get worse after the talk with the lady?

They only started to think about the Harfang and its good environments. Jill stopped memorizing the signs and they started to be grumpy towards Puddleglum.

Reflection

I started to respect Puddleglum and his patience. His characteristics are worth enough to get praise. For his attention, observation, and intuitions are the characteristics that made Puddleglum be such a great guide. Also, I think the hardest thing to be patient with is listening to kids’ comment who are acting like they are grown up. However, he even is angry about that. I think Puddleglum has great qualities that we can learn from it.
