Chapter 14 The Bottom of the World
1. What did the gnome tell them? What was his name?

The name of the gnome that Puddleglum caught was Golg. While he was working one hour ago, he heard a sudden crash and bang, and they realized the Witch’s magic, which was controlling the gnomes to work, was broken. They started to wonder why they were working and not singing, joking, or dancing and they saw the light from the Bism.

2. Why was Puddleglum still cautious? What did Golg say to relieve their fears?

Puddleglum was still cautious because the walkings of the gnome were like military marching formations. The Golg replied that the Prince and the four travellers were on the Witch’s side. And the gnomes were trying to fight back to the Witch for their lives.

3. What was Golg’s response when they asked about the road to the diggings? Why did he think it was dreadful? Why did he think the Overlanders lived on the outside?

When they asked about the road towards the Overland, Golg squeaked and feared about the Overland. Golg thought the Overland was dreadful because it doesn’t have any roof, but space called sky. He thought the Overland people lived outside because they couldn’t found a way to go down and he thinks the Overland people don’t like living in Overland.

4. What could they see down in the chasm? What did Golg have to say about the land of Bism?

There was a strong light coming out from the chasm. They could see a field and forests with a combined light of colours like blue, red, green, and white from the chasm. Golg asks them to visit Bism by adding that they would be happier than living in the cold unprotected place. Also, Golg mentioned fire-lizards and living jewels that they can eat and drink.

5. How did they proceed after the lamps went out in the tunnel? What gave them hope?

They were scared, they tried to be brave. The Prince was talking about Aslan and Puddleglum was trying to be optimistic by saying sad jokes. But, soon, they saw vague light from above, something like cold and blueish light, which gave them hope.

Reflection.

The underworld Kingdom where those gnomes called Bism was the highlight of this chapter. The contents of the Bism were interesting for the readers to imagine how the Bism looks like. Such as talking fire-lizards or living jewellery foods drinks was fantastic enough to make me want to visit Bism by me if it was real. Also, the thinking of living under a roof and without a roof was so different. The gnomes were thinking the sky is terrible and the four humans were thinking the roof was too dark and stifling. That was also something interesting for me to think about why those gnomes feel good about living in a hot smelly stifling place.
