Chapter 13 Underland without the Queen

1. What theory did Puddleglum have about the strange events in Underworld?

The Puddleglum’s hypothesis about the strange event was the Witch’s spell that she made to destroy the Underland if she dies. So that, the people who killed her would be buried in this Underland, with her death.

2. Why didn’t the Prince want to put on his armor? What happened to his shield? What did he think it meant?

The Prince didn’t want to put on his armor because he put that armor when he visits the overworld with the Witch and there is still the trace of enchantment that remained on the armor. Therefore, he decided to bring only his shield rather than his armor. They found that the Prince’s shield changed, from black to shining silver and it revealed the hidden pattern of a bloodly red lion. The Prince thought the changed of the shield is a sign that shows the Aslan is the one true lord of themselves. Therefore, he thought they need to bow down on their knee and kiss the lion on the shield. And they did so.

3. How does Jill’s attitude toward the horses show about her courage and character?

Since Jill used to do horseback riding every holiday, we can tell Jill is used to handling horses. However, going into a barn where there are scared horses waiting to be free was very brave of her compared to her previous attitudes about the tunnels.

Reflection

First of all, I was quite surprised about Jill’s apology to Scrubb about being such as pig (if it is possible I would like to describe her previous behaviours were like a jerk), because that means she knew her behaviours could be annoying and very rude to other people. Also, I was amazed at Jill’s behaviour towards the horses. It was my second time being amazed while reading this book. The first time was when she could fool the Giants at Harphang with her acting. I was almost starting to thinking about Jill has no good for other people except acting adorable. This chapter was quite brighter than the other chapters, and it was worth enough to read to see gnome’s first laugh.
